Hello my fellow EXO growers and welcome to the monthly “what to grow?” blog! This month’s segment is on September! As we are slowly switching seasons between summer and fall this creates warm days and cooler nights due to us losing a little bit of sunlight each day. Some plants truly thrive in these conditions. so will you because you can finally go outside and not instantly fry! But now it’s time for the information that you’ve been waiting for, the best herbs, veggies, and flowers to grow in September are…
– Veggies
- Arugula
- Bok Choy
- Brussels sprouts
- Broccoli
- Brussels Sprouts
- Cabbages
- Cauliflower
- Collard Greens
- Kale
All of these veggies do really well in the cooler weather, and all of them can withstand a frost. These hardy veggies also have a unique ability to turn sweater when they are affected by a frost. This Happens because the veggie changes their starches to sugar to protect against a frost.
– Herbs
- Parsley
- Rosemary
- Mint
- Cilantro
These herbs also do very well in the cool weather, they can withstand a mild winter and also add some flavor pizzaz to your fall dishes.
– Flowers
- Chrysanthemums (Mums)
- Pansy
- Aster
- Stonecrop
- Marigold
Flowers like pansies, Aster’s, and Stonecrop all bloom in the cool fall weather. Chrysanthemums and Marigolds do well in the cooler weather and also add a nice pop of color that contrasts the fall flora and fauna.
Thank you for reading this month “What to grow?”, we here at EXO wish you a bountiful and delicious harvest.
